This cruise was booked back in 2024 when our Northern Lights cruise was cancelled. Silver Sea had a 132 day World Cruise but we could book select segments. We booked segments 1 and 2 that included the Panama Canal from North to South and Easter Island. About 189 people booked the entire cruise; the ship about 440 passengers total. For many of the World Cruisers (WCrs), this was not their first. One lady did her 6th WC and quite a few were on # 2, 3, or 4. Needless to say ir was an interesting group of people.
We met Bryan and Laura on the first day. He was the cruise Rabbi from Canada. Mark found another Iowan, of course! Jay was one of the gentleman hosts to dance with the single women. Ellie from England was the WC Concierge and had some interesting stories from previous cruises. Walker and Jillian from Scotland stayed on the cruise until New Zealand.
One stop was in Costa Rica for the day and we did a rain forest walk with great guide. Susan melted by the time we got to the 3 bridges – 37m, 42 m, and 67 m with metal grating flooring. Susan didn’t see much of the treetops while she looked UP and held on to both rails. The bridge shook quite a bit as more people walked along it.
Our next stop was Colon before we sailed through the Canal. The tour we did visited two locks to give us quite a lot of information about the Canal – building it, running it, enlarging it. They were great! The next morning we crawled out of bed about 6 AM to watch us start through the canal which takes all day and the Silver Dawn was the first ship of the day.
